The African Magician has been written by acclaimed Sudanese playwright Afeif Ismail and transcreated from Arabic to English by Vivienne Glance. Featuring puppetry, song and dance The African Magician is a celebration of child’s play in different cultures.

The play is modelled on African-Arabic theatre, as performed in Sudan. It follows the journey of a young girl growing up in an African village where magic is real and powerful and belief and knowledge are in conflict. Along the way the girl meets many magical characters and learns about her place in the world and the importance of being proud of who we are.
