When River, a ten year old boy, hears about the American space station Skylab crashing in remote Western Australia, he's terrified that the world's about to end. Meanwhile Joe Junk, the town scrap-dealer, eagerly awaits the most profitable pile of recyclable metal ever. Enter the mysterious Dallas Penski: is she a NASA engineer, CIA agent or AI robot and what's she going to do about River, Joe Junk and Skylab?
Based on real events from 1979, Skylab gives a timely message to the present about humanity, technology and the future of the planet.
Created for the 20th UNIMA World Congress and Puppetry Festival, junk comes alive in Skylab as animatronic pets, robots and more and the soundtrack is played exclusively on electronic beeping appliances and children's toys.
