BGTC Workshops are designed to hone the skills of children and young people with an interest in the performing arts and ignite their imagination and creativity.
BGTC Workshops take kids and young people on a creative journey. They are a great way to learn new skills, develop confidence and enhance communication skills. These skills are an important part of everyday life as well as in the performing arts.
BGTC Workshops are led by skilled industry practitioners and teachers who aim to make sure time spent at Barking Gecko is fun, rich and rewarding.

ABOUT OUR TUTORS

Barking Gecko tutors are experienced theatre artists who have exceptional skills in bringing out the best in young people. All of our tutors have been trained at either NIDA (National Institute of Dramatic Art) or WAAPA (Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts). They are well respected in the arts community and all have a current Working with Children Check.
Nick Candy
After graduating the WAAPA acting course, Nick has had a colourful journey as an actor working in physical theatre in Japan, in theatre and film in Australia and recently helping establish Iceland’s only resident circus company in 2008. Theatre credits include: Spurboard, and Woyzeck for Black Swan Theatre Company’s emerging artist group, Shakespeare in the Park, Bed with Thinice, Macbeth, Three On One Off. He has written and directed his own work “The Task” for Artrage, performed with the Perth famous Big Hoo Haa impro comedy group, and toured with numerous school productions. Nick has a strong background in physical theatre and circus, performing aerial and acrobatic acts in festivals here, in Japan and in Iceland.
Fleur Hockey
A highly skilled performer and mask maker Fleur has worked extensively in regional areas of Australia’s South West and North as a teaching artist and artist in residence. An honours graduate in contemporary performance from Edith Cowan University Fleur has established her own theatre company and regularly delivers drama workshops for the arts charity The Song Room and Barking Gecko, WA’s premier Theatre in Education Company.
Marko Jovanovic
Marko came to Sydney, Australia in 1988 from Sarajevo. His first job at the age of 7 was helping his mum sell toys on the weekends at the Flemington markets. Since graduating from NIDA in 2009 Marko has toured with the Bell Shakespeare Company and also taught workshops for NIDA.
