Barking Gecko Theatre is thrilled to announce a new community partnership with Horizon Power to support ‘Powering Imaginations’ 2022 and 2023. The project will provide thousands of children living in Goldfields/Esperance, Kimberley and the Pilbara access to Barking Gecko’s world class theatre productions and out-of-school drama workshops.
In partnership with Horizon Power, Barking Gecko will contribute to the cultural vibrancy of regional communities by touring two new WA theatre productions to Esperance, Broome and Karratha. To deepen the experience, local children and families can participate in community engagement activities linked to themes explored in the stories told on stage.
Powering Imaginations will also support the mental health and wellbeing of children and young people living in regional WA by providing them with access to Barking Gecko’s Gecko Ensembles (weekly out-of-school drama classes) in Kununurra, Broome and Karratha, and four days of school holiday drama classes in Esperance.
Horizon Power General Manager Customer Experience Krystal Skinner said she was delighted that Barking Gecko’s application for a community partnership had been successful.
“We are looking forward to working with this amazing group of creative people to bring more theatre productions to our regional communities,” Ms Skinner said.
“The touring productions will create a greater appreciation for arts and cultural amongst young people. The added value is that they will have the opportunity to explore their own drama skills at the workshops.”
“Who knows, we may have an amazing artist set for international fame waiting in the wings in one of our regions. This may be the opportunity they have been waiting for to step out onto the stage.”
