Gecko Learning Workshops
Barking Gecko Arts partners with schools to design creative learning experiences that respond directly to the needs, interests and strengths of students, teachers and school communities.
Rather than offering a fixed list of workshops, we work with you to co-design programs that use the arts and creativity as powerful tools for learning across the curriculum and for supporting social and emotional wellbeing. Workshops can support specific curriculum outcomes, whole-school priorities, wellbeing goals, or creative skill development, and can be delivered as one-off sessions or as part of a longer residency.
Workshops are typically delivered on school grounds, with off-campus options available at venues such as the State Theatre Centre of WA or Subiaco Arts Centre, subject to availability and additional costs.
What can be explored?
Our Teaching Artists are professional practitioners working across a wide range of art forms. Depending on your context and learning objectives, workshops may include exploration of:
- Drama and theatre making, including improvisation, character, storytelling, devising, voice and movement
- Creative writing, storytelling and literacy, including narrative structure, text creation and adaptation
- Visual arts, including sculpture, environmental art, textiles and mixed media
- Music making, including rhythm, percussion, composition, improvisation and sound exploration
- Movement, physical theatre and circus, supporting embodied learning, focus, collaboration and self-regulation
- Creative play for early years, supporting imagination, emotional expression and social connection
Learning through creativity
Workshops can be tailored to align with learning areas such as English, Humanities and Social Sciences, Science, Mathematics, and Health, as well as cross-curriculum priorities. Creative processes are also intentionally used to build skills in communication, collaboration, confidence, empathy, and emotional awareness.
All programs are facilitated using Barking Gecko Arts’ child-centred, strengths-based approach, creating inclusive, playful, and safe learning environments where young people are encouraged to take creative risks and express their ideas.
