The Hon. David Templeman announced as inaugural patron of Barking Gecko Arts
Barking Gecko Arts is delighted to officially announce The Hon. David Templeman, the former Minister for Culture and the Arts and a tireless advocate for arts and culture in Western Australia, as its Inaugural Patron.
Barking Gecko Arts, the new identity formed through the merger of Barking Gecko Theatre and AWESOME Arts Australia, is Western Australia’s leading creativity company for children and families. With a bold new statewide vision for access, innovation and creative impact, the appointment of Mr Templeman marks a significant milestone in the organisation’s evolution.
"David Templeman’s deep understanding of the power of the arts to transform lives, especially the lives of children, makes him the ideal person to take on this role," said Ryan Taaffe, CEO of Barking Gecko Arts. "He has long been a passionate supporter of both Barking Gecko Theatre and AWESOME Arts, and we are honoured to have his guidance as we chart our next chapter."
Mr Templeman said he was "honoured and delighted" to become the organisation’s first Patron.
"The arts are an essential part of a vibrant, inclusive society, and nowhere is their impact more powerful than in the lives of young people. Barking Gecko Arts continues to be a shining example of what is possible when we prioritise imagination, creativity and access for all children. I look forward to supporting this important work across the state."
As Patron, Mr Templeman will support Barking Gecko Arts’ mission to unleash creativity in children across Western Australia through theatre, festivals, regional programs, creative learning and community engagement.
