Barking Gecko’s works speak to the children in the here and now – to their inner lives and the experience of growing up in a complex world. Theatre that is as rich, layered, and vibrant as the experience of childhood itself.
Starting from $5,000, the donations we receive from our Gecko Guardian donors support the commissioning of new works and projects, enabling talented artists and creatives to seed and craft extraordinary theatre of ambition, quality, and substance. These productions captivate the hearts and minds of young audiences and will live in the collective memories of children for years to come.

Areas of Support
Commission new innovative plays, adaptations, and projects for Barking Gecko’s diverse audiences and empower new, emerging, and established writers, artists, directors, designers, actors, and technical crew. Building a diverse repertoire of inspiring productions that can be enjoyed far and wide and captivate audiences for years to come.
Bring live theatre into classrooms where students (and their teachers!) are invited to step ‘inside the story’ through participatory elements and propel the narrative forward through drama activities which engage creativity and imagination.
Showcasing its sparkle in schools across 2024, IMMERSE Program combines the beauty of live performance, exquisite production design and immersive learning outcomes.
In the coming years, Barking Gecko Theatre will become a hub of new writing for young audiences, both through our commissioning program and a new program for emerging playwrights eager to write for children – the only one of its kind in Australia.
